Discovering Cryptographic Weaknesses with Claude

Researchers at Anthropic using Claude Mythos Preview discovered mathematical flaws in cryptographic algorithms themselves, rather than just implementation errors. The AI found an improved attack on HAWK, a post-quantum digital signature scheme being considered by NIST, and identified a new way to attack round-reduced AES, the world's most widely used encryption cipher. While these represent significant research advances, the findings do not currently affect any production systems.
