Debian has voted to allow "responsible use of generative AI" in its project development, maintenance, and documentation. The decision neither endorses nor prohibits AI tools, but recognizes their potential to improve contributor productivity while maintaining that all submissions must meet the same quality and legal standards regardless of whether AI was used. Contributors remain fully responsible for reviewing, testing, and verifying any AI-assisted work before submission.
