Death Comes for XSLT
Google and other browser vendors have decided to deprecate and remove XSLT support, with the removal scheduled for November 17, 2026, breaking websites that rely on the technology. The author, who built their site XSLT.RIP using XSLT as a statement against this decision, argues that Google is violating the long-standing web principle of backwards compatibility and the social contract that browsers should never intentionally break the web. Chrome has begun displaying warning banners on XSLT websites, effectively blaming site owners rather than taking responsibility for the breaking change.
