Dav2d
VideoLAN has announced dav2d, a fast software decoder for the new AV2 video codec, following the success of their dav1d AV1 decoder. AV2, the successor to AV1 and latest royalty-free codec from the Alliance for Open Media, offers approximately 25% compression improvements but is roughly five times more complex to decode, making optimized software decoders essential. The dav2d project is already feature-complete for AV2 specification version 15, supporting both 8-bit and 10-bit decoding with most major components implemented and undergoing optimization.
