Val Town's Steve Krouse describes how Dynamic Client Registration (DCR), an OAuth extension, solves the "n² problem" of connecting every app to every other app by automating OAuth client registration instead of requiring manual setup for each connection. Val Town built an MCP server using DCR that enables seamless OAuth authentication, allowing developers to add "Login with Val Town" to their apps with just two lines of code, with the OAuth client created automatically on first use. This approach, pioneered by Anthropic and OpenAI, eliminates the tedious manual process of registering OAuth clients across multiple platforms.
