In 1992, when the author was eight years old, his school gained access to a computer lab with old IBM PC machines, providing only two hours of monthly access that sparked a lifelong passion for computing. He spent most of his time programming in Logo on paper and graph paper at home, occasionally getting thirty minutes to run programs on the actual computers, and later fulfilled a childhood dream by creating an Invaders-like game as an adult in 2022. His early experience with limited computer access and the need to manually distribute code to classmates resembled an early form of open-source software sharing.
