Charts built for Chat

dbt Labs is open sourcing dbt Charts, a declarative YAML-based language designed to let AI agents build governed dashboards through chat interfaces. The tool addresses a gap between AI-generated code (which is messy and hard to audit) and traditional BI tools (which constrain agents to limited UI capabilities) by allowing charts and dashboards to be defined in a single, auditable YAML file. This represents the next phase of BI unbundling, moving chart creation from UI-based tools into code where AI agents work most efficiently.
