Can AI design circuit boards yet?

OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra demonstrated AI capability in circuit board design using KiCad, but researchers have developed EEBench, a benchmark that tests AI electronics design more rigorously by using declarative code instead of GUI tools and simulating real-world constraints like component tolerances and power loss scenarios. The benchmark reveals that while AI models have substantial electronics knowledge, designing circuits that actually work requires accounting for messy real-world factors like capacitor voltage derating, part tolerances, and worst-case operating conditions.
