C# now beats Rust on WASM size
NetWasm 0.8.0, an independent .NET compiler for WebAssembly, now produces smaller compiled binaries than Rust, generating a 47,798-byte standalone WASI component compared to Rust's 53,635 bytes for the same workload—10.9% smaller in raw size and 20.4% smaller when compressed with Brotli. NetWasm includes its own runtime and precise garbage collector in these measurements, and version 0.10.0 also demonstrates faster garbage collection and memory allocation performance compared to Mono AOT when both are compiled from the same C# source.
