Building Gin: Simple over Easy
The author created Gin, a Go web framework in 2014 that prioritizes simplicity over ease by avoiding reflection-based magic and keeping control flow explicit, unlike the popular Martini framework at the time. Inspired by Rob Pike's "Simplicity is Complicated," Gin strikes a balance between plain net/http (full control but verbose) and over-engineered frameworks, using a radix tree router and a single Context object to handle common operations without hidden behavior. More than a decade later, Gin remains widely used and was even forward-compatible with Go's standard library context.Context when it was introduced.
