Nabu Casa is renaming "Home Assistant Cloud" to "Home Assistant Link" to better reflect the service's values of privacy, local control, and avoiding vendor lock-in, while distancing itself from the negative connotations Big Tech has created around cloud services. The service, which funds Home Assistant's open-source development through optional subscriptions, allows users to access their locally-run smart home systems remotely without storing data in the cloud or requiring cloud dependency. The rebrand aims to eliminate confusion and clarify that Home Assistant itself runs locally in users' homes, not in the cloud.
