Automating Immersive Reading

Storyteller is a software platform that automatically aligns ebooks with their corresponding audiobooks by using a forced alignment algorithm to identify where each word in the text is spoken in the audio. The aligned files are then embedded with synchronization metadata using the EPUB Media Overlays specification, enabling immersive reading experiences where text highlights in sync with narration. The platform has evolved from a single Python script into a comprehensive ecosystem with web and mobile applications, and its core technology addresses unique challenges in book alignment such as differing chapter orders between ebook and audiobook versions.
