Auto mode is now the default in Claude Code

Anthropic is making auto mode the default in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team plans starting August 14, 2026, allowing the AI to work autonomously while using a classifier to block dangerous commands instead of requiring manual approval for each action. Testing across red-teaming, user studies, and production data shows auto mode matches or outperforms manual review in safety while enabling longer autonomous work sessions and increasing productivity by approximately 25% among team users. The change will roll out to Enterprise and cloud platform users in the coming month, with no additional charges for the classifier overhead.
