Arrows to arrows, categories to queries (2025)
A programmer has created catlang, a novel programming language that compiles directly to SQL SELECT statements, with an intermediate representation based on abstract category theory. The language features arrow notation for expressing computations, which are then transformed into categorical abstractions (using operations like composition and products) before being compiled into database queries, allowing programs to be executed by running the resulting SQL in PostgreSQL.
