Code analysis reveals that Apple's upcoming iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate contain frameworks allowing third-party AI models like Claude and ChatGPT to replace or extend Siri at a deep level. Two mechanisms enable this integration: "Model Delegation" allows AI models to appear as Siri extensions that can access Apple system features, while an "Inference Provider" protocol allows alternative models to completely replace Apple's server-side Siri model. The design appears partly motivated by the EU's Digital Markets Act, which requires Apple to grant third parties effective access to iOS features available to Apple's own services.
