A developer has announced Box3D, an open-source 3D physics engine forked from Box2D, created to address limitations in Unreal Engine's native Chaos physics system for their survival game "The Legend of California." Box3D includes features like triangle mesh collision, multi-threading support, and a continuous collision solver, and was developed by adapting Valve's Rubikon physics engine with Box2D v3.0 optimizations to better handle the game's requirements for managing hundreds of thousands of entities and simulating complex interactions like falling trees.
