America's Driver's License Breach Is a National Security Disaster
A dark web service called Nexus has been selling access to approximately 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver's licenses and 3 million travel documents, apparently obtained by breaching identity verification company IDScan over more than a year. The breach poses significant national security risks beyond typical identity theft, as adversaries like China can use driver's license data—particularly when combined with other stolen databases—to identify U.S. intelligence personnel and inform counterintelligence operations against American agencies.
