Achieving AI-style reasoning without an LLM

Minotaur AI is a new reasoning system that achieves complex logical thinking—including deduction, diagnosis, and belief revision—without using a language model or GPU, instead working by measuring system structures rather than predicting text. On blind tests, Minotaur matched the reasoning performance of current large language models while operating on a single processor core in about a quarter second per question. The approach represents an alternative to language models, which gain their reasoning abilities by learning to predict human thought patterns in text, and offers verifiable, checkable reasoning that can be replayed and certified.
