An activist project called "weowntheglass.com" has created a screensaver designed to run on smart TVs to counteract LG and other manufacturers' use of Automated Content Recognition (ACR) technology that tracks and analyzes everything displayed on screens for advertising purposes. The screensaver displays constantly-moving historical artwork to prevent ACR systems from identifying content while serving as a statement against what creators view as corporate surveillance of personal viewing habits. The project is presented as an independent artistic response asserting consumer ownership over their television screens against extractive advertising practices.
