9000 RPM is faster than your screen refreshes

A modern sports car engine at 9000 RPM completes 150 revolutions per second—faster than most laptop screens can refresh. To help visualize this incredible speed, the author created an interactive animation showing various engine layouts (inline-4, V6, boxer-6, and flat-plane V8) that can be slowed down to reveal the intricate movement of pistons and crankshafts that would otherwise appear as a blur to the human eye.
