Researchers have successfully disassembled the microcode from the Intel 80386 processor's ROM (94,720 bits), a significantly larger and more complex task than previous work on the 8086. Using image processing, neural networks, and collaborative analysis, the team extracted and decoded the binary microcode by identifying patterns in its structure and cross-referencing it with the 80386's hardware accelerators and instruction decoder. The 80386 microcode contains 215 entry points compared to the 8086's 60, reflecting new instructions and variations based on operand types and processor modes.
