27.5KB language-agnostic WebGPU syntax highlighter

Shu Ding at Vercel Labs has created gpu-lexer, a 27.5KB WebGPU-based syntax highlighter that uses a machine learning model to identify and label code tokens across any programming language without requiring language-specific grammars. The tool performs 10× faster than competitors like Shiki while maintaining 90.2% accuracy agreement, though it trades some correctness for universal language support and smaller file size.
