1-Bit Bonsai Image 4B Image Generation for Local Devices
PrismML has released Bonsai Image 4B, a family of compressed image-generation models designed to run on local devices like iPhones and laptops by reducing transformer weights to 1-bit or ternary (3-state) representations. The 1-bit variant achieves an 8.3x reduction in diffusion transformer size compared to the full-precision FLUX.2 Klein 4B model, enabling it to run on an iPhone 17 Pro Max with just 1.5 GB of active memory during inference. Both variants maintain open weights and practical image generation quality while dramatically shrinking the deployment footprint from 15.97 GB to 3.42 GB for the binary model.
